The Curriculum
Develop Care and Compassion
- Cultivate qualities of care and compassion while modeling exceptional patient care skills.
Direct Patient Care
- Understand and apply concepts of direct patient care, including anatomy, physiology, health terminology, infection control, and legal/ethical considerations.
Nursing Theory and Clinical Practice
- Study nursing theory and engage in hands-on clinical skills practice in preparation for CNA/GNA certification.
Patient Assessment
- Learn to assess and monitor vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and dementia care.
- Collect specimens and measure patients’ height and weight.
Personal Care Assistance
- Assist patients with daily personal needs, including hair, skin, and dental care, for those unable to perform these tasks independently.
Patient Mobility Support
- Re-position patients in their beds, assist with transferring patients to wheelchairs, and guide patients in walking exercises.
Maintaining a Comfortable Environment
- Ensure the cleanliness of the patient’s room, change bed linens, and launder soiled clothing, linens, and towels.
Personal Interaction and Emotional Support
- Provide culturally sensitive, respectful emotional support tailored to the patient’s level of understanding, honoring their personal, religious, and cultural identities.
Skills Lab
- Utilize a fully equipped, updated Skills Lab with bed stations, medical equipment, and anatomical manikins to practice clinical skills in small groups.
Clinical Internships
- Participate in week-long clinical internships under the supervision of a registered nurse preceptor in hospitals, assisted living communities, and long-term care centers.
